Call Representative Jerrold Nadler today and urge him to cosponsor the Disability Integration Act!

UPDATE: Rep. Nadler has agreed to sign on! Thank you all for your engagement in such an important process.

The Disability Integration Act (DIA) is a bipartisan civil rights legislation that ensures people with disabilities have a right to live and receive services in their own homes. The DIA also prevents people with disabilities from being forced into costly institutional settings due to unnecessary government regulations.

Representative Jerrold Nadler committed earlier in the month to signing on as a cosponsor on the DIA (H.R.555) but is now walking back his support. He cosponsored the Disability Integration Act last session. At this point, he is the only New York Democrat in the House who is not either already signed on as a cosponsor, or in the process of becoming a cosponsor.

Representative Nadler is important because he is Chair of the Judiciary Committee which has jurisdiction over the bill. Let’s all reach out today and demand he support the right of people with disabilities to live in the community by cosponsoring the Disability Integration Act!

Action:
Call Representative Jerrold Nadler’s office today at #202-225-5635 and ask to speak to Melissa Connolly. Tell her you’re disabled/a disability rights advocate and calling to urge Representative Nadler to join all the other New York Democrats in the House in signing on as a cosponsor to the Disability Integration Act, H.R.555.

She might claim that as Chair of Judiciary, he doesn’t cosponsor bills that will come to his committee. If she does, point out that he is a cosponsor on the Equality Act (H.R.5), which is also civil rights legislation that would come to the Judiciary Committee. Demand that Rep. Nadler support the civil rights of all people to live and receive services in the community by cosponsoring the DIA today!

If you have the chance, you can tell your story and use the talking points provided.
